A grueling three years of speculation, sadness and now resolution has torn the country asunder with the recent acquittal of Casey Anthony of the most serious of charges she faced. Anthony faced charges of First Degree Murder, Aggravated Child Abuse, Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child and four counts of Giving False Information to a Law Enforcement Officer. Convicted of only the four misdemeanor counts, which carry up to a year in jail and fines, Anthony got away with murder according to most of the nation.
Today Casey Anthony was sentenced on the four lesser counts and received a maximum of four years and a $1,000 fine on each charge and will be released on Thursday, July 14, 2011 after having been given credit for time served. What is to become of Casey Anthony next week is being closely guarded to protect her safety as well as those who will be protecting and housing her. There is thought that Anthony will be subject to a number or repayment suits, one already pending by the state of Florida, so that reimbursement can be made for search efforts in trying to locate Caylee Anthony.
So many in the media had convicted Casey Anthony seemingly even before her arrest and she has been vilified by journalists, "expert" attorney's covering the case for a variety of news outlets as well as most of the world. The outcome of the trial has done little to quell the anger felt by the majority in fact it has caused the furor to increase.
Headline News star Nancy Grace has constantly degraded Anthony as "Tot Mom" and went on to say "somewhere the Devil is dancing tonight" in response to the not-guilty verdict. In doing so Grace has enjoyed the best ratings for her show since its inception. Though no thank you from Grace to Anthony is forthcoming, one certainly should be, especially since Grace is exploiting not only Casey Anthony but also Caylee in an effort to boost her struggling show. To say that many news outlets and TV shows will not benefit from this trial as well as using the death of Caylee Anthony to help ratings and gain advertisers is naive.
The State of Florida failed to prove their case and by doing so they too failed Caylee Anthony because the State did not prove the case against Casey Anthony beyond a reasonable doubt. That seems to be lost on a great number of people beyond a reasonable doubt. This case was built on flimsy physical evidence and too much on speculation and opinion. Expert testimony presented by State witnesses was flawed and based mostly on what they thought not on what was. Beyond a reasonable doubt, if one would cast aside their preconceived notions, is a major player in this case and the State failed to show that Anthony played a part in the physical harm that would cause death to Caylee.
A lot of what many are basing their opinions on are the actions of Casey before, during and after the disappearance of Caylee. A distraught mother, who was not involved in the disappearance and possibly death of her child should not have waited 31 days to report her missing, should not have went out clubbing, not have had sex, instead she should have been holed up in a darkened room, crying an endless amount of tears and wishing she were gone and not her daughter, so say many people who have not experienced anything that would remotely qualify them to judge the actions of another. Investigators with "years of experience" have said that Casey Anthony acted strangely compared to others that have had a child go missing or end up dead. Yes, that is probably true, but years of experience do not equate to knowledge and to thrust the actions and reactions of another onto someone in a similar situation yet not a similar person is arrogant.
While many can say that they would do this, do that, act like this or that, no one, not even that person, would know definitively how they would react to any type of situation without actually having experienced that scenario. Even then, someone who has went through a traumatic event could react differently when presented with the same of similar event. Our genetic make-up, our ideology, our morality, they are as different as the people who came together to make us who we are and for someone to grandstand and say they would act in a certain way and therefor so should someone else, is ignorant.
There are a number of things that happened during this entire ordeal that are suspicious yet mostly overlooked that bring pause to the guilt or innocence of Casey Anthony. George Anthony had said he contemplated suicide because he could not bear life without Caylee yet it is highly unusual for a grandparent to take such a drastic step. George allegedly stepped outside his marriage and had an affair at a time when this tragedy should have brought he and wife Cindy closer together.
Cindy Anthony recanted earlier testimony and tried to absolve Casey where using the computer to search for chloroform was involved. Cindy risked perjury charges in a thinly veiled attempt to salvage her daughters life perhaps because she had an epiphany and realized there was more to this than she first realized. The actions and reactions of George Anthony would lead one to believe he was somehow complicit in the death of Caylee and Cindy connected some proverbial dots that led her to that conclusion.
While few believe Casey Anthony is innocent of murder she has been absolved of such and that needs to be laid to rest. Casey Anthony may be guilty of complicity to murder though and that avenue should be looked at with vigor, especially the role of her father and how he may or may not have contributed to the death of Caylee. There is a number of suspicious happenings within this family and Cindy is just now catching on to what really happened while brother Lee is still seemingly in the dark.
Caylee Anthony was an adorable little girl who died for a reason and with purpose but it may not be that she hampered the partying lifestyle of her mother. Casey could have and did rely on her parents to look after Caylee while she continued to be somewhat of a wild child. Caylee Anthony died for a reason and with purpose but why may remain a mystery.
For those who think Casey should not profit from the death of Caylee, there should be as much outrage geared toward the media and other players in the game who will be doing the very same thing Casey is already being ostracized for.
